one-year anniversary of david’s waste of bandwidth 2.0

Just realized it’s been a year and two days since I switched this blog from my old iBlog-based site to WordPress. Glad I did—iBlog bit the dust (a two-year beta and incompatibility with the latest version of OS X signals bad juju for certain) and aside from not being able to handle javascript, WordPress.com has worked well so far.

    same old blog—better tools

It’s been an interesting 24 hours, but I’ve managed to transition from my previous iBlog-based blog to this one, using WordPress.com. Granted, I would have had much more flexibility had I gone with WordPress.org, set up PHP, etc. on my computer. And perhaps I’ll get to that one of these days. But for now, this is on balance, far better than what I was using before. As mentioned on the old site, iBlog 1.x hasn’t been updated in ages, and the prospects of a 2.0 release were pretty dim. So it was a good time to switch over. The old blog will still be on my .mac server, since it continues to get a lot of hits (why this is the case, continues to elude me). But this will be the site moving forward. Please feel free to link to it in your blogroll, and let me know what you think in the comments!

Welcome to WordPress. It’s very cool, and very flexible. I’m planning to move my blog over to WP one day, when I get the time, but I manage two other blogs with WP and like it a lot. I think you’ll find it much better than your previous solution.

      Best,

      Kirk

Wow – a very polished look.
Wish I’d gone wordpress and not blogspot…

      Yours in po-mo po-min,
      Baco

Cool! WordPress does a good job of keeping it clean, and is pretty flexible (For some of the things you mentioned trying to do, take a look at the WP plug-ins pages. There’s a ton of quite nice free stuff that adds & runs in seconds).

Thanks, everyone. I agree—this looks way better than iBlog. I spent a lot of time with iBlog trying to futz with the templates in XML, and it was more art than science. Glad I took the leap, which only took a day or so.

Unfortunately, Safari 3.1 doesn’t give the little RSS conversion buttons for wordpress blogs. It lets me subscribe okay, but I have to click on the Read More link to see the pretty layout. Anyway, your new layout looks great.
