hey David,have you ever tryed to compose with microtones?Is it possible finale to play them?With sibelius it is possible
I haven’t, although I consider it from time to time. It’s not that I don’t like microtones—love Scelsi, Partch, kraig grady, Dave Seidel, etc. But I’ve never understood all the theory behind it, and there’s a great risk that what you write will either be extraordinary difficult to perform (I’ve got enough people out there who bitch at me that my music is “difficult”) or else could just sound “out of tune.“ When there’s a compelling reason for me to use microtones, i’ll certainly do so. Thus far, i haven’t found it in terms of my own predilections. Finale can notate quarter tones, but I’m not aware that it can deal with playback. There are other ways to get around this, I think.
